How to Overlay Images — Create Composites and Watermarks

Combine two images by overlaying one on top of another. Create watermarks, logos on photos, and image composites.

How to Overlay Images — Create Composites and Watermarks

What Is Image Overlaying?

Image overlaying places one image on top of another. Common uses include:

  • Adding a logo watermark to photographs
  • Placing a badge or stamp on images
  • Creating composite images for social media
  • Adding a frame or border graphic

How to Overlay Images

  1. Upload base image — The background photo
  2. Upload overlay image — The logo, watermark, or graphic to place on top
  3. Position the overlay — Choose a corner, center, or custom position
  4. Adjust opacity — Make the overlay semi-transparent if desired
  5. Adjust size — Scale the overlay relative to the base image
  6. Download — Save the combined image

Tips for Good Overlays

  • Use PNG overlays — PNG supports transparency, allowing the base image to show through
  • Keep watermarks subtle — 30-50% opacity for watermarks that protect without ruining the image
  • Position logos consistently — Bottom-right is the most common logo placement
  • Match sizes — Scale the overlay appropriately relative to the base image
  • Consider contrast — A white logo may not be visible on a light background. Use a semi-transparent dark background behind the logo if needed
